Why Bardia

Nepal's Last True Wilderness

While Chitwan draws the crowds, Bardia remains Nepal's best-kept safari secret. This vast Terai jungle in the far west hosts one of the highest tiger densities in Asia — yet sees a fraction of the visitors.

The mighty Karnali and Babai rivers cut through the park, creating habitats for wild elephants, one-horned rhinos, gharial crocodiles and the rare Gangetic river dolphin. Walking safaris here feel genuinely wild.

Khaki, olive and brown help you blend in during walking safaris. Bright colours startle wildlife and reduce sighting chances.

Fly into Nepalgunj
Daily flights from Kathmandu take 1 hour. The overland drive from Pokhara or Kathmandu is 8–10 hours along the Terai highway.

Best Oct–Mar
Post-monsoon offers lush scenery and good sightings. Winter gives clear views but cold nights. April–May wildlife concentrates near water sources.

Bring malaria protection
Malaria prophylaxis is recommended for the Terai. Use DEET repellent, sleep under a net and wear long sleeves at dusk.
