Every night at 7:45pm and 8:45pm, the Supertrees come alive with a choreographed light-and-music show — the Garden Rhapsody. Stand at the base of the Supertree Grove and look up as the enormous tree structures pulse with colour, entirely free of charge. Arrive 20 minutes early for a good spot in the centre of the grove. After the show, walk the OCBC Skyway between the trees for the Marina Bay view.

Changi Airport is an attraction in itself — visit Jewel Changi (the 40m indoor waterfall and forest) after landing. Take the MRT East-West line (SGD 2.10) directly to the city centre (30 min). Check in. Evening: walk Orchard Road, Singapore's famous retail boulevard, for dinner at one of the food courts (hawker-style eating in an air-conditioned mall — excellent).
🚇 Tip: Buy an EZ-Link card (SGD 12 with SGD 7 credit) at the airport for all MRT, bus and LRT travel — essential for getting around Singapore efficiently.

Singapore's national dish and one of the world's great examples of culinary simplicity — poached chicken (silky smooth, barely cooked through) served over fragrant rice cooked in chicken stock with chicken fat, ginger, sesame oil, three dipping sauces and clear soup. Tian Tian at Maxwell Food Centre is Michelin-starred and USD 2.50 a plate. Anthony Bourdain called it "possibly the finest version of this dish on the planet."

Singapore's most famous dish — mud crab stir-fried in a thick, sweet-spicy-tangy tomato and chilli sauce, soaked up with fried buns (mantou). Not actually very spicy — the sauce is more sweet and savoury than fiery. Jumbo Seafood at Robertson Quay and Maison Ikkoku are the most respected. Allow SGD 50–80 (~USD 38–60) per person — not cheap, but arguably the best seafood dish in Southeast Asia.

The definitive Peranakan dish — thick rice noodles in a rich, spicy coconut curry broth with prawns, fish cake, bean sprouts and a dollop of sambal chilli. Singapore has two main styles: curry laksa (thick and coconut-rich) and asam laksa (sour tamarind-based). 328 Katong Laksa is the most celebrated and costs USD 5 for a bowl you eat with a spoon (the noodles are cut short to fit in the spoon). Unmissable.

Eat everything at hawker centres — Singapore has the world's best affordable food
Restaurants in Singapore are expensive (USD 20–40 for a meal). Hawker centres are the opposite — USD 2–5 per dish of extraordinary quality, often Michelin-starred or Bib Gourmand rated. The key insight: Singapore's hawker stallholders have spent 30–50 years perfecting one dish. The Tian Tian chicken rice stall is 30 years old and unchanged. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at hawker centres and spend the money you save on hotel upgrades or attractions. This is how Singaporeans eat every day — and there is nothing better.

Nepal passport holders receive a 30-day free visa on arrival at Changi Airport. No fees, no forms — just show passport, return ticket and proof of hotel. SG arrival card must be completed online at ICA website within 3 days before arrival (free).

Singapore is famous for its strict enforcement: chewing gum is prohibited (since 1992), littering is a SGD 300–1,000 fine, jaywalking can result in a fine and drug trafficking carries the death penalty. In practice, as a tourist, simply don't litter, don't eat or drink on the MRT (SGD 500 fine clearly posted), and use crossings. The strict laws are why Singapore is the world's cleanest and safest city — respect them.

Singapore's MRT is one of the world's finest — air-conditioned, on-time (99.9% punctuality), safe 24/7 and covering every major attraction. A journey costs SGD 1–3 (USD 0.75–2.25). Taxis and Grab cars exist but are expensive by comparison. Download the MyTransport.SG app or Google Maps for real-time directions. The night bus network covers after-midnight travel. There is no reason to take a taxi for most tourist journeys.

Singapore sits on the equator: 28–32°C year-round with high humidity. There is no "cool season." February–April is the driest (fewest rain days). November–January is the North-East Monsoon season (more rain, but still hot). Rain is typically short, sharp afternoon showers — not all-day downpours. Pack light cotton clothes, carry a small umbrella, and embrace the air-conditioned underground: malls, MRT and hawker centres are wonderfully cool.
